Medjool dates, Zataar spices, garam masala and saffron – that’s what the Dattelmann oriental box is all about. The perfect spice mix for oriental dishes and, as a sweet & healthy dessert, the most famous dates – Medjool dates – are directly included.
Here is a small overview of the different products in our oriental box:
1. Saffron (0,5g)
“Za’fran” is the Arabic word that means “to be yellow”. This floral spice has a bitter and aromatic taste, slightly pungent and spicy smell. It gives all kinds of meat and fish dishes, rice and pastries a special and unique note as well as a typical rich and golden color.
2. Zataar (500g)
Zataar is a very aromatic wild plant. Its taste is a mixture of thyme, marjoram and oregano. The word za’atar from Arabic means “thyme”. The herb is also called “Syrian marjoram”.
What is zataar used for?
Our zataar is a traditional spice blend that is readily served as a “breakfast spice” with bread, oil, hummus, salads, but also in marinades, dips, dressings or with vegetables. Why not try making your own hummus with our delicious hummus recipe and season it with zatar?
3. Garam masala – Indian spice blend (handmade) (50g)
The recipe for success of our garam masala is its handmade powder form. Garam masala is sometimes used alone, but it can also be mixed with other spices. It is a mixture of ground spices, often used in Indian cuisine. The spices for garam masala are usually roasted to bring out more flavor and aroma and then ground. The word masala simply means “spices” and garam means “hot”. However, garam masala is not necessarily a particularly spicy blend. Our powdered form is gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian.
4. Unpitted Medjool dates (1 kg)
Medjools are very large dates. Their flesh is rather firm and their skin is thin. The dates are sweet and have a caramel note.
The dates are packed and shipped fresh from the palm tree. They should be stored in the refrigerator or freezer.
