What are almonds and where do they grow?

You can buy almonds in many forms in our Dattelmann Shop. Whether as roasted almonds, blanched almonds, sliced almonds, natural almonds in smaller sizes and in wholesale size, almond flour and almonds roasted and salted, our healthy almonds provide you with enough power and fit every situation. But what actually are almonds and where do almonds grow? Since almonds are seeds of a fruit, strictly speaking they belong to the stone fruit and not to nuts. You might think so because of almonds’ crunchy texture, high unsaturated fatty acid content, and general hard character. However, their plant family is the rose family, similar to peaches and apricots. The almond tree has an interesting shape, as it can grow up to 12 meters high, among other things. Its ripening period is only towards the end of summer. It is also important for the environment, as its flowers contain a lot of nectar, creating habitat for many insects.

How healthy are almonds?

Our almonds are not only delicious, but also healthy. Almonds are very popular in Germany. This can be attributed, among other things, to the optimal nutritional values of the almond. Even a small handful of almonds contains about 7 grams of protein, 2 grams of carbohydrates and 14 grams of fats. Most of the fatty acids are healthy polyunsaturated fatty acids. Our almonds are also an excellent source of fiber and rich in vitamin E, vitamin B2, magnesium and manganese. The high content of vitamin E strengthens your immune system and thus protects you from diseases. So almonds are a real fitness snack. Also because the magnesium contained in almonds is essential for the proper functioning of nerves and muscles, and also helps with sore muscles.

Recipes with almonds

The almond comes in a variety of forms and is always suitable as a snack in between meals to counteract cravings. However, the almond is even more popular in the world of baking. Whether in breads, energy balls, butter cake with almonds, shortbread with almonds or apple pie with almonds. However, our almonds also harmonize with savory dishes, such as Baked Sweet Potatoes with Almond Topping.
