Dattelmann’s 10 favorite varieties – Date selection (2x1kg, 7x 800g, 1x500g)

There are so many varieties of dates – and all of them are incredibly delicious! We know it can be hard to choose, so we’ve put together our ten favorite varieties. Find out which one is your favorite with our selection of different soft and hard date varieties, with varying degrees of sweetness. Each variety is unique!

This date assortment gives you the opportunity to try 10 different date varieties: Sukari Soft, Medjool, Bawalini, Astaka, Deglet Nour, Mazafati, Safawi, Khidri, Ajwa, Mabroom.

A treat to the power of ten!

This assortment contains the following varieties:

  • Sukari Soft – Sukari dates, also known as royal dates, have soft flesh, are conical in shape and have a crinkled skin. They are rich brown with golden yellow tones. They have a caramelized and fruity flavor with notes of honey at the end. They are not too sweet, very tender and are a pure delight! Excellent fiber and carbohydrate sources, they are a healthy snack for athletes, students, employees or any sweet tooth!

  • MedjoolMedjools are very big in size. Their pulp is firm and juicy and their skin very thin. Medjool dates are chewy and deliciously sweet and taste a little bit like caramel.

  • Bawalini – Our Bawalini dates are very juicy and sweet. The skin is slightly crunchy and the flesh is so incredibly tender that it melts in your mouth. In taste, Bawalini are similar to Sukari Soft but slightly less sweet, with a distinct caramel flavor instead. They are perfect to be eaten as is, for example as a healthy snack. Since they are very soft, they are also excellent for baking or smoothies.

  • Astaka – Our delicious Astaka dates are large and round with tender flesh and crispy skin. They range in color from dark yellow to brown. The lighter ones are firmer, fleshy and crunchy, while the darker ones are softer and creamier. Astaka have a mild and slightly sweet taste. Since they are very fresh dates, they should always be kept in the freezer. They are excellent iced!

  • Mazafati – Mazafati dates are juicy and sweet. Those wonderfully sugary dates melt in your mouth and if you have a sweet tooth, they are absolutely irresistible.

  • Safawi – Safawi dates have a beautiful dark brown color. They are quite firm and have a fine taste, slightly reminiscent of coffee. Their aftertaste is not as sweet as other date varieties, so you can easily snack on them as a healthy snack.

  • Deglet Nour with branch Deglet Nour (arabic دقلة نور ‚date of light‘, also „Deglet Noor“) grow in North Africa, mainly in Algeria. They are relatively big dates with a uniform brown color. Their skin is very thin, and they are soft but still crunchy. Deglet Nour have a very pleasant, sweet and fruity flavor and taste best cold, directly from the fridge.Deglet Nour dates are packed and sold with the branch. Because they are soft dates, it’s possible that some get crushed by the dates on top or the lid of the box. This is completely natural and no indication of lower quality, it also doesn’t have any impact on the taste.

  • Ajwa – Ajwa dates are a special variety from the Medina region of Saudi Arabia. They have a unique round shape and a deep red, almost black color. Their strong aroma, fine and crispy skin and firm, dry flesh distinguish them from other date varieties. However, Ajwa dates keep their sweetness and melt in the mouth. Ajwa dates are appreciated for their health benefits. Like other date varieties, they are naturally rich in minerals (potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium), and promote low blood pressure, thus reducing the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.

  • Mabroom – Mabroom dates are delicious, sweet, sticky and have a wonderful caramel-like aroma. Their skin is bronze red and they have an intense and pleasant flavor. They are not dry, but noticeably firmer than many other varieties. We think this candy-like consistency is exactly what makes these dates special. Mabroom also contains a lot of fiber and minerals, which help keep the body and mind healthy. The taste of Mabroom is different from other varieties of dates and you will be surprised by its special flavor.

  • Khidri – the “large, dark, and mysterious” dates, are known for their distinct deep chestnut red hue, uniform in color. They have a light and flaky skin and sweet, chewy flesh reminiscent of raisins, are moderately sweet and have a warm, intense aftertaste. Reboot your energy system with Khidri dates!

What is the recommended serving temperature for dates?

We recommend eating soft/juicy dates cold or even frozen. Chewy dates (like Mabroom, Khidri etc.) should be eaten at room temperature so they’re not too hard.
